Glenn Public School and Community History Project
The Glenn Public Schools in collaboration with the Michigan Millennium Project has proposed a cultural project that would document the family history and predict the future of the small, two room school community of Glenn, Michigan.
This project would involve the Glenn school students, faculty, staff, community historians, a local video animation specialist, a song writer/musician, and other volunteers in the making of a documentary video marking the year 2000 with a memorable milestone. The burial of a time capsule will be a part of this project, both this year and at the celebration of the millennia during the 1999 Glenn Homecoming Festival.
Wendy Steudle has formed a committee to begin to define and steer the project. The basic premise of the film is to look at the elders, the living history of the community and through the eyes of students-discuss past, present and future.
This project will benefit this close-knit community which faces the complex dilemma of rapid growth and a desire to stay the same. The community has a wonderful human resources just waiting to be tapped. This project can pull together a community focus and a purpose to interact. The student's perceptions will bring an insightful perspective that will crystallize the meaning of the video.
