Governor John Engler's Letter of Support:
"As Governor of the State of Michigan, I extend my endorsement of a special Michigan-based project, the Millennium Project, to celebrate the beginning of the new Millennium. The Michigan Millennium Project has been conceived by Lou Rizzolo, a Western Michigan University of Fine Arts Professor and nationally known artist."
"The Millennium Project is an expression of Michigan's past, present and future. The Inflatable Light Workshop and a Public Statewide Celebration has collaborated to inspire an optimistic view of the 21st Century. The Uniqueness of our state has provided the vision to use old and new light technologies to define and illuminate the water edges of Michigan. Using laser lights and searchlights in major lighthouses, and friendship campfires on the many miles of shoreline, this display will be documented by satellite and/or aerial photography and transmitted worldwide."
"Through creative endeavors as the Millennium Project, we can draw all citizens together to share the importance of our cultural base and involve citizens of all ages in celebration. I invite all MIchigan residents and visitors to our state to watch for this unique event in the summer of 1999, and to be a part of this spectacular display of light, hope and friendship as we move into the 21st Century."
