MARCH THE MONTH OF THE SOUTHERN CROSS

The World Peace Art Installation, "THE SOUTHERN CROSS" will be installed ready for the opening on March 15 2003. The installation is to be erected at the Tasmanian [Australia] site the week prior to the official opening.

School children and adults have painted Peace Banners, using their own concept of peace and the results are fantastic.

It was hoped that 1000 banners would fly from this earth bound constellation, this number is almost certainly going to be passed as nearly 2000 pieces of fabric and tyvec have been provided.

The staff of the participating schools have been marvellous in assisting and coordinating the input, one school having produced over 90 banners

Elizabeth Sandman a Choral Director with the Department of Education in Tasmania has undertaken the roll of Music Co-ordinator for the two opening days and has a lot of young voices practicing The Song of Peace. for this occasion.

The opening will also include a large "canvas" for the public to paint when they visit. Time will be set aside for other activities and a few quiet locations will be set aside on this beautiful site for visitors to look at the colour and movement of the banners.

I am indebted to Tasmanian Pole Renewals and Australian Maritime Systems for making the installation a possibility.
