Starr Earthwork--Initial Parameters: (see Aerial Map)
SITE:
Starr Earthwork 2002 will be
located on 37 acres of Starr Commonwealth property located near Starr
Commonwealth Road (26 Mile Rd) and I-94. The area is a large section of land
with slight rolling hills, up to 6' elevation, and has been used to produce
crops and is planted annually. The site has been documented using still
photography and video. Aerial photographs have been obtained and conceptual
models of the Starr Earthwork have been created.
DESIGN:
The actual design is yet to
be determined, but should be initiated by November 2000 to resolve the final
design by the end of the year 2001. However, using the list of possible
components from the World Peace Installation Model, such components/motifs
to include water, prairie, flowers, crops, labyrinth, sound, and community
space. It has been determined that the USA site at Starr Commonwealth in
Albion, Michigan will be an earthwork.
TIME-LINE:
Most aspects of the time-line
for the Starr Earthwork have not been determined with absolute clarity. It
has been determined that the Starr Earthwork will be planned, implemented
and maintained during the fall 2001 through fall 2002.
MATERIALS:

PEOPLE:
The Albion community promises
to be exceptionally receptive to the WPI goals and well engaged in the Starr
Earthwork. Many community and educational programs are to be initiated during
the 2000-2002 time-line.
LOGISTICS/OPERATIONS:
Other than using the collaborative
possibility of the farmers who work the Starr Commonwealth properties, it
has not yet been determined what equipment will be used. The
logistical/operations recommendations from the WPIAR at Starr Commonwealth
will be utilized.
TECHNOLOGY:
Both mechanical and technological
equipment will be needed for the design and implementation of the Starr
Earthwork. Much of the specific equipment will be determined after the design
has been conceived and conceptual renderings have been
completed.
INTERCULTURAL
TEAMS:
Pending funding, the Starr Earthwork
2002 should form teams to develop portions of the earthwork utilizing
Intercultural/Inter-educational/Inter-city Teams. Money should be earmarked
to allow 3-5 team members (or more) from other WPI countries to include
Internationals from Australia, Peoples Republic of China, Italy, Norway,
and the USA.
PUBLIC
RELATIONS:
A public relations committee
will be formed whose charge is to determine the possibilities for publicity.
Many groups should be included, such as community organizations, churches,
schools, and peoples in all stages of the Starr Earthwork. Before, during
and after the Starr Earthwork, the relations with the public will be addressed
to share and promote World Peace and the "Oneness of
Humankind."
FUNDING:
Funding for the Starr Earthwork
should occur through applications to private foundations, donation, volunteerism
and in-kind services. The WPI Authority should be responsible for contacting
and identifying alignments with key state and national funding sources.
Implementation of grant procedures should be reviewed to align them with
prospective corporation/ foundation deadline dates.
